FedEx announced a new multiannual case with the Nuro autonomous technology company to test its autonomous delivery vehicle as part of a pilot program. According to FedEx, the arrangement includes a pluralization agreement that will allow the company to evaluate how it could be able to use the NOO autonomous vehicle. The pilot program takes place in Houston.
FedEx explores how autonomous technologies can be integrated into its activity, including the potential use of autonomous vehicles for the manufacture of deliveries of day packets and nomination. This is an important step for Nuro, however, marking its first expansion in the world of parcel logistics.
Nuro has already teame up with companies from other industries, including big name companies like CVS and Walmart. The autonomous vehicle of the company seems a bit unusual compared to other street cars and it is because it serves a unique purpose: it is done only to transport objects, not people. As a result, Nuro is narrower than typical delivery cars and, because of its electrical nature, it has zero emission.
Vehicles like this one may one day be the current way to get items delivered to your home, including all of a hot meal with your orders and other orders. There is a disadvantage at that time, however, which is that the customer must walk on the vehicle and recover their parcels – a problem that can also be addressed in the future for those with mobility problems.
