Volkswagen might mention 2021 jetta “pragmatic,” and rationality certainly is the name of the game for one of the most affordable cars on the market today. A mainstay of the compact sedan segment since 1979, Jetta always promised between golf playing and adult passat. However, today, Jetta might have matured a little too far.
With golf in the US, VW has peeled the Jetta configuration to one machine. Actually it’s the same machine: a four-cylinder turbocharged 1.4 liter, with 147 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The cheapest 2021 Jetta, a trip of $ 18.995 (plus a $ 995 destination), is equipped with a six-speed manual. So, too, is $ 22,795 Jetta R-line.
If not, you get eight automatic speeds, with the front wheel drive across the board. In the case of 2021 Jetta Premium Cells – the most luxurious Volkswagen offer – it pushed the price to $ 2,045 plus a purpose. Some of it is a cold weather package, which is $ 500 about the lower trim, and the driver’s help package is equally.
All Jetta get the LED headlights and rear, and R-Line and above update 16-inch alloy wheels to the 17-inch version. SE and above have heated up a side mirror and sunroof power panorama. SE and above get dual-zone automatic climate control and heated front seats; Cars with cold weather packages have heated steering wheels and heated rear seats. Only cell premiums have actual skin coatings.
On the safety side, post-collision braking automatically is standard throughout the board, while SE and above get a warning collision with emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and cross-traffic warnings behind. Cells and cell cars Premium throws adaptive cruise control with the help of lanes.
Jetta may have the same machine as golf 2021, but the end result still feels quite different. Golf has, of course, the chassis settings approaches, and is completely more exciting with 147 tails. Even with the same platform below it, Jetta plays everything a little more maturely. Surprisingly zippy from the start standing, easily attractive, but the angle sees more rolls and steering wheels in light.
I suspect that the Jetta owner is like that, and of course it is a relaxed and unmatched experience from behind the wheel. Jetta Gli promises some more sensations, thank you no small parts to the active attenuation, but this regular car is not possible to increase your heartbeat.
The same thing can be said for the cabin, which is dark and conscious enough so you can assume Volkswagen will go through the Goth phase. Matte Black Plastics sits next to the black gloss plastic, and a dark silver trim sprinkling around the control cluster is not enough to lift the interior of a grim monochrome.
Switchgear feels good, but the rest of the plastic is only middling, and all the blank buttons around the transmission shifter are reminders that even in the form of premium cells you don’t get a large number of toys. The 8-inch touch screen in cells and premium trim cells is now running MIB3, a newer version of the VW infotainment system; S, SE, and car R-line get a 6.5-inch touch screen and older MIB2. So, too, the two highest trims package the Digital Cockpit Volkswagen, with the screen changing analog gauges.
MIB3 is clean and easy to use, although VW graphics are not lost from pale aesthetics from the rest of the interior. There is Apple Carplay and Android automatic, plus wireless charging pad, and cell cars and premium cells get a 400 watt audio system beat with eight speakers and subwoofers. There is a surprising bass level from it, along with two USB-c ports.
Where Jetta stands out – including fighting golf – in the economy. EPA says you will get the same 29 mpg in the city, but driving highway is rated to 39 mpg (versus golf 36 mpg) for one point profit at 33 mpg combined. In practice, it’s not difficult
