Oneplus and OPPO combined their R & D team, and brought the two closer companies when the Co-Founder and CEO Oneplus confirmed that telephone makers would now be “further integrated.” Oneplus will continue to operate as a separate brand, Lau insists, although it is expected that new organizational arrangements will be a shortcut for the development of more cost-effectiveness.
“Because many of you, last year I took some additional responsibilities to oversee product strategies for Oneplus and Oppo,” Lau wrote on the official Oneplus Forum. “Since then, we have integrated a number of our teams with OPPO to streamline our operations and utilize additional shared resources. After seeing the positive impact of that change, we have decided to integrate our organization further with Oppo.”
Too late in 2020, Lau has added to his role by joining the Oplus investment company as SVP. Those are groups that oversee the “brand synergy” between Oneplus, Oppo, and Realm. At that time speculated that the move could also show closer connections between product development for three companies.
The reality is, even though they have been largely treated as separate entities, connections between Oneplus, Oppo, and Realm – along with Vivo and others – already exist. They are all owned by Electronics BBK Heavy Class Chinese, which has become a rising star on the smartphone sales charts given a product array and different price points.
Even so, Oneplus has long insisted on its own independence. Move ahead, the bond between the company will be a little closer. “With deeper integration with Oppo, we will have more resources to create better products for you,” Lau said. “It will also allow us to be more efficient, for example, bringing software updates faster and more stable for Oneplus users.”
Ironically this step comes as two other Chinese brands. Huawei raises his honor sub-brand in 2020, in an effort to release him from the US trade block that has been enforced. Today, Honor not only announces the new 50 Honor Smartphone series, but confirms that he has signed an agreement with Google to restore services and applications to new Android phones and tablets.
It is not clear which team, outside of research and development, Oppo and OnePlus will now share. Even so, the development of software looks like a clear place to start, given the special work of the two companies do it on customizing their Android version. Oneplus has announced that his cell phone will switch from hydrogeno to Coloro Oppo on the Chinese market at least.
