Google has taken the user of the smartwatch platform on adventure in the past few weeks. It hangs a promise about what can be the biggest update to use the OS but then chooses to remain a mother on any update plan until the end of this year. Smartwatch makers don’t help problems by becoming ambiguous about updating smart watches that exist for what is now not officially nicknamed using OS 3.0. Qualcomm has tried to remove doubts about the ability of the chipset using Snapdragon to run this enhanced experience. However, Google itself may have flushed cold water on it again by implies it may not occur.
As Google said itself, the situation was not completely cut, even at a technical level. Like Android, there are many layers and parties involved in developing the OS wear platform, and one of them can be a source of detention. In other words, it’s too early for Qualcomm or the manufacturer to make an appointment that might not be stored.
Qualcomm is not surprisingly claiming that the Snapdragon Wear 3100 2018 can support whatever features of Wear OS 3.0. Reviews of SmartWatches using this processor, however, do not put it in favorable light and there is still doubts about whether it can handle a heavier burden. Google, it looks like, think so.
Responding to the XDA report about Qualcomm’s statement, Google said that it has not confirmed any feasibility or timeline to update existing OS smartwatch hours, all but two of them run on a longer processor. It also says that the user experience is a top priority and wants to ensure that this user experience is optimized.
Google won’t throw the Qualcomm partner under the bus, of course. However, reading between lines indicates that it might see a stronger and newer chipset like Snapdragon 4100 and 4100+. There are only two smart watches that use this processor so far, newer Mobvoi Ticwatch Pro 3 and E3 Ticwatch, and it will be embarrassing if they are not upgraded to use OS 3.0.
But even if Google and Qualcomm provide a green light to use OS 3.0 on the Snapdragon Wear 3100 device, the ball will still be left in the OEM court. Upgrading this device is not a small task, especially for SmartWatch makers that are not used for the process. They, unfortunately, are more likely to leave older devices and only use OS 3.0 on the coming device instead.
